A six days trip to the Lower Omo Valley of Ethiopia. This trip covers Chamo lake, Arbaminch, Dorze, Chencha, Konso, Turmi, Omorate, and Alduba.
6 Days at Lower Omo Valley.
Addis Ababa - Arbaminch (FLIGHT)Checking in for your flight at 12:00PM, you will be flying to Arbaminch at 1:00PM. Arriving Arbaminch at 3:05PM, you will have a 2.5 hours’ boat trip on Chamo Lake (one of the seven Rift Valley Lakes in Ethiopia) where you will be able to see the largest and oldest Nile Crocodiles, Hippos, Pelicans and a variety of birdlife. Late afternoon, you will proceed South down to Arbaminch, spending overnight at Paradise Lodge www.paradiseethiopialodge.com.
Arbaminch - Dorze Haizo - Chancho - Konso (Visit)Starting off from Arbaminch at 8:00am, you will proceed to Dorze Haizo village located in the Gughe Mountains. Here, you will be able to visit their bamboo-made cone-shaped huts, cotton weaving skills they have attained as a result of the need for warm clothing due to living in the 2550+meters asl altitude, ‘Kocho’ preparation out of false-banana trees etc. Further ahead at Chencha, you will be able to visit their weekly colorful market. Returning to Arbaminch late afternoon, you will be proceeding to Konso where you will be spending overnight at Kanta Lodge / Edget Hotel #1 – #2.
Konso - TurmiAt 8:30am, you will be visiting a Konso village whose community has recently been registered as the 9th UNESCO-registered World Heritage Site. Villages to be recommended are Gesergio/Mechekie, their ‘Wakas’ (wooden totems) and the close-by massive rock formation dubbed as ‘New York’ as it resembles the sky scrapers of New York. Proceeding further to Turmi, you will be driving through the scenic Weito lowlands where you will be able to visit a Tsemai tribe village. Further ahead, you will also be able to visit a Bena tribe village in the surroundings of Key Afer. Arriving Turmi late afternoon, you will spend overnight at Buska Lodge www.buskalodge.com / Kizo Lodge / camping at Keske Campsite.
Turmi (Market Visit)Through the morning, you will be visiting a Hamer tribe village in the surroundings of Turmi. Here, you will be able to see their dressing patterns, hair decorations, goat herding, food preparation, etc. Through the afternoon, you will be visiting their weekly market, a lively interaction. End of the day, you will be spending overnight at Buska Lodge www.buskalodge.com / Kizo Lodge / camping at Keske Campsite. *During your time in and around Turmi, you may have the possibility of visiting a ‘Bull-Jumping’ ceremony, a ritual of the Hamer tribe.
Turmi - Omorato - Alduba - Konso (Market Visit)At 8:00AM, you will be proceeding to Omorate, home to the Dassanach tribe that are said to be descendants of the Turkana tribe in North Kenya. Crossing the Omo River, you will be visiting one of their remotely accessed villages close to the Kenyan border. Here, you will be able to see their semi-nomadic housing structures, dressing patterns, decorations, etc. Returning back to Turmi at noon, you will be proceeding to Konso, enroute visiting a weekly market of the Bena and Hamer tribes at Alduba. Proceeding further and arriving Konso late afternoon, you will spend overnight at Kanta Lodge / Edget Hotel #1 – #2.
Konso - Arbaminch - Addis Ababa (FLIGHT)At 8:30AM, you will be proceeding to Arbaminch, enroute visiting Gamo tribe villages. Arriving Arbaminch at 11:00am, you will have an early lunch at Tourist Hotel after which at 1:00pm, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. Arriving Addis Ababa at 5:10pm, you will be transferred to a hotel of your choice, thereby ending your 6 days tour of the Lower Omo Valley of South West Ethiopia.
